Bodkin Design Issued Two Hyperspectral Imaging Patents
Newton, MASSACHUSETTS June 28, 2013
Bodkin Design & Engineering, LLC (BD&E), a Massachusetts based technology development company, is pleased to announce the issuance of US patent numbers 8,174,694 and 8,233,148, which outline enhancements to its non-scanning Hyperspectral Imaging product line. These patents support technology implemented for high speed collection of three-dimensional hyperspectral images (two spatial dimensions plus spectral information). These enhancements also give the systems flexibility over a trade between spectral and spatial resolution.
Hyperspectral Imaging systems collect both spectral and spatial information in one instantaneous video frame. BD&E’s high-performance imaging systems employ patented HyperPixel Array™ (HPA™) technology to release the full information potential of any scene. This advanced technology provides the user with an enhanced data stream, while eliminating motion artifacts and maximizing signal-to-noise response. Additionally, these systems can be designed to interface with virtually any foreoptic, from telescope to microscope. BD&E’s Hyperspectral Imaging systems operate in wavelengths ranging from the visible through the LWIR in a variety of spatial and spectral resolution combinations.
BD&E’s expanding portfolio of fourteen US patent and patent applications covers a wide range of topics, representing the varied expertise of the company. These patents include topics like Infrared Radiation Sources, Railroad Retarders, and Portable Power Generators, but have an overall emphasis on infrared spectroscopy, hyperspectral techniques and imaging device manufacturing.
The uses for hyperspectral imaging are rapidly expanding into industrial applications and the commercial Research and Development space. Snapshot hyperspectral imaging is increasingly being used in biomedical research, drug detection, pollution monitoring, marine biology, food safety, quality control, mining exploration, leak detection, and public safety. BD&E is eager to work with partners to develop further uses for its patented technology.
